UPDATE: An agreement has been reached concerning how wallpapers are treated in the community, and the boycott is over.

-------------------------------

So I'm sure pretty much all of my watchers aside from a select few have heard of Equestria Daily, and in fact, probably visit the site on a fairly regular basis.

Well, for those that have been visiting the site for a long time, you might have noticed a pretty significant drop in quality in regards to their wallpaper compilations. Now, as it is one of the top most visited sites in the fandom, and being the main hub for news, art, music, fics and other creative endeavors, I feel like they should take a little more responsibility to make their content as high quality as possible.

Now, you're probably thinking. "Delta, why are you bitching to us? Get off your ass and go do something about it."  Well, we have tried before. A staff member of #EquestiaDigital sent in a complaint, which lead to the promise of increasing the quality of the wallpaper compilations. Despite this promise however, no changes have been made. There have been other similar attempts like this one, all which have simply been ignored.

More recently, someone left a comment on Equestria Daily referring to the drop in quality of the compilations, to which an EqD staff member replied; "We need more wallpapers!" (Screenshot: [link] ) This is far from true, as I know many graphic designers who send in wallpapers almost weekly, sometimes even in sets of 3 or 4. I myself used to send in wallpapers into EqD all the time, but many were ignored or lost. I've even received the infamous "to the queue!" response only to have it never appear on the site. Many friends of mine have told me they've received the same treatment.

And for the record, I'm not saying this because my wallpapers haven't been placed on the site. No, I got fed up and stopped submitting to EqD a long time ago. I'm saying it because my friends, who are great people and some of the most talented graphic artists I know, haven't been able to get themselves on the site. They don't deserve to be ignored and treated like they're nothing. They deserve to be known. I got popular because of the wallpaper compilations on EqD, I'm not gonna lie. But now that the compilation's organization sucks, the newcomers can't get their hard work in.

We at #EquestriaDigital would like this to stop. We have all agreed to stop sending in art, and will disallow any of our art to be posted until further action is taken to amend the compilations. If you agree, please help us and sign this petition:

  • Listening to: Going Quantum because I'm so cool.
  • Reading: Upheaval: Breaking Point
  • Watching: Gravity Falls/Bob Ross
  • Playing: Far Cry 3, Bonerlands 2
  • Drinking: Chlorine-filled city water, it's all I have.

I've sent art many times, and I've never even been lucky enough to even get a "to the queue" message. From what I can tell, everything I've ever sent has simply been ignored. What we *really* need to do to get through to EQD is get a competing site up and running that is well coordinated, communicates with its users, and has clearly defined standards and submission guidelines. If we could get something like that going and take traffic away from EQD by running a better service, I think that would be the most likely thing to make the staff at EQD take a hard look at what they've been doing wrong and try to fix their problems.

I know that #EquestriaDigital, the group behind this, has a Tumblr blog which features wallpapers and a work-in-progress forums, but I don't know if those could ever compete against something as popular as Equestria Daily.

I too have submitted art to EqD, have gotten their "To the queue!" reply, and were faced with the same results as you. Before this petition (which I so hastily signed) came to light, I discussed with a friend about EqD's general lack of acceptance and their basic agenda. I mentioned to Seth about potentially recruiting people to reign together the quality of (as well as manage) their compilations, and never got a reply.

Why don't you do something to help. Complaining gets you nowhere. Or just compile wallpapers yourself.

How can we compile wallpapers on a site we don't work for? Plus, we have asked to compile the wallpapers ourselves a while back, but the staff didn't want us to help for whatever reason.

I never said anything about working for EQD. And if wallpapers are so important that you have to make a petition against EQD, why not try to set up a collection for those who don't get featured on EQD. All I'm saying is that the staff at Equestria Daily already puts a lot of effort into keeping up with the fandom. Going against them will only make things work. What do you hope to accomplish, anyways?

Ok, to put it simply, this is what we want to accomplish; EqD gets a LOT of brony traffic. Down here on a single deviant's page, an artist does not. EqD is a great way for these individual artists to get noticed. Now, I'm somewhat known so I'm not concerned about more traffic. But there are plenty of other wallpaper artists who still haven't bumped their first hundred watchers, even though they deserve a thousand. These good artists and hard workers should be known. EqD would be the fastest way for these people to gain recognition. But, unless EqD gets themselves sorted out, these artists have a small chance of being up on a compilation.

Even though the title implies such, we are not actually going against EqD. We simply want to see EqD improve their practices. Anytime a complaint or suggestion is made, it's just brushed off instead of investigated, acknowledged, and/or fixed.

The flaws aren't just in wallpaper compilations. It's happening in Drawfriends, convention posts, music posts, etc., as well. However, we do not possess the ability to contribute to those other areas which is why this petition pertains solely to wallpapers.
